Sunset at Luscentyre Beach

Sunset at Luscentyre Beach

This perhaps is the most beautiful beach I have ever encountered.  It is located on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides Islands of Scotland. As the tide ebbed and flowed and the light changed constantly throughout the day, this beach was a constant fascination for me and drew me back many times.

The Standing Stones of Callanish

The Standing Stones of Callanish

This sacred spot is located on the Isle of Lewis one of the Outer Hebrides Islands off the north-western coast of Scotland. Each stone has its own feel and together they create an incredibly powerful atmosphere. Whilst walking among these stones, I felt as though I was walking with the "ancient ones".

Tending the Herd

Tending the Herd

Not far from the remote Chalbi Desert in northern Kenya, we drove by this woman herding her goats.  She literally was in the middle of nowhere, so it was breathtaking to see this scene.  This image was  taken from a moving Landrover as we were unable to stop at the time. Luckily, it was shot at such a high speed that it captured the scene beautifully.

At One With the Water

At One With the Water

I was struck by the aloneness of this young boy in his dugout on Lake Malawi, one of the rift valley lakes in central Africa.

Everything Changes

Everything Changes

This image taken at Sossusvlei (meaning dead marsh) in Namibia, Africa, speaks to me of impermanence.  These salt pans are very ancient and are largely composed of 5-million-year-old sands. The water is trapped in the pan which is surrounded by dunes, and then dries out, the trees die, but continue to have a very strong presence.

African Sun

African Sun

While at Lake Turkana, known as the "Jade Sea" in remote northern Kenya, I watched the sun set behind this local goat herder standing high on the hill.

Sunset Ribbon

Sunset Ribbon

This image was taken one evening on the south shore of Lake Malawi, in central Africa. I would often spend hours watching the sun go down on the lake and this evening it was particularly enchanting.  Just as the sun cast an incredible orange ribbon on the lake, these two local fisherman came into view. It was a magic moment.

Aitutaki Sunset

Aitutaki Sunset

This image was taken on the western shore of Aitutaki, one of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. Often, in the evenings, the water was so still and it would perfectly reflect the sunset. The appearance of the new moon made this evening especially magical.

Still Waters

Still Waters

I was struck by the perfect stillness of the water of Lake Wakatipu on the South Island of New Zealand. It gave me a strong sense of peace and calm.
